Obituary

Evans, GA-Mr. Charles R. (Russ) Holloman, a marriage and family therapist, died May 15, 2017 at his residence. He was 90.

A Memorial Service of Death and Resurrection will be celebrated on June 10, 2017 at 12 noon at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at a Going Away Party in the Family Life Center immediately following the memorial service and the playing of taps and reveille.

Mr. Holloman, a native of Mississippi, was a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel. He was also retired from the position of Maxwell Professor of Organizational Behavior at Augusta State University. For 25 years he had a private practice as a marriage and family therapist in Martinez, Georgia.

After receiving his doctorate in psychology from the University of Washington, Dr. Holloman taught at the United States Air Force Academy where he held the position of Professor of Psychology. During his teaching career he also taught at the University of Maryland (Germany), The University of Southern California (Okinawa), Virginia Tech, and Augusta State University. He authored over 50 research papers in his area of interest and published three books including "Now a Word From Our Creator" and "Making Marriage User-Friendly"

His memberships and affiliations include American Psychological Association, American Association for Marriage and Family therapy, Beta Gamma Sigma honorary fraternity and Alpha Kappa Psi professional fraternity.

In the community, Mr. Holloman served as Chair of the Advisory Board at St. John Towers, President of The Friends of Columbia County Library, member of the Board of Trustees of the Columbia County Library, and was a member of the Board of The Department of Family and Children’s Services of Columbia County, Georgia.

He was a longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and served his local church, the Augusta district, and the north Georgia conference in numerous administrative roles. He taught the O'Neil Sunday School class at Aldersgate for almost 40 years. He also served as a district leader for 14 years and was a certified lay speaker.

Russ always took time to work, play, think, read, pray, laugh, listen, dream, worship, love, and be loved.

Mr. Holloman is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Loomis, Atlanta, and his son Mark Stephen, Raleigh, North Carolina. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years Lenora.
