Boston – Ronald R. “Stubba” Bachand, 64, died peacefully on May 11, 2017 at Boston Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.
Ron was born in Acushnet on July 16, 1952, a son of the late Roger A. and Beatrice I. (Montminy) Bachand. He grew up in New Bedford and resided in Acushnet for over 29 years. Following his graduation from Bishop Stang High School in 1970, he attended Southeastern Massachusetts University where he earned his bachelor degree in Political Science. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a meat cutter for Fernandes, BJ’s and Trucchis Supermarket. An avid sports fan, Ron loved the NY Yankees and Giants, but also supported the Celtics and Bruins. He was an outstanding hockey goalie and softball player, playing in many local men’s leagues.
Ron was a simple, kind-hearted and hard-working man. Some of his enjoyable times were spent on family vacations, which included Alaska and Lake Powell. He also enjoyed playing cards and pool. His most cherished memories were the many happy years he spent at the family cottage at Long Pond in Lakeville, sharing his love of boating and fishing with his family and friends. His presence will surely be missed as the family gathers for his favorite holiday, “Thanksgiving Day at the cottage”, which he enjoyed for the past 60 years.
Ron is survived by a brother: Paul Bachand and his companion, Denise Swift; a sister: Diane M. “Dee” Martin, her husband Robert, their daughter and Ron’s godchild, Elizabeth Martin; a sister: Jeannine Picard and her husband, Paul; his godmother and aunt, Cecile Fagan; and many cousins.
