Andover – Lorraine E. (Berry) Gioia, 84 of Andover, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, after a 15 month battle with ovarian cancer. She was the beloved wife of 41 years to the late Alexander P. Gioia.
Lorraine was born and educated in Lawrence. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1950. She worked at Lawrence Maid Footwear and later as a tax examiner at the IRS until her retirement in 1995. Lorraine was an avid Patriots and Notre Dame fan and enjoyed her retirement going on trips, spending weekends at her beach cottage with her family, and playing Uno with her friends and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, working in the yard, and working the Eagle Tribune puzzles every day. She was a member of the Greater Lawrence Italian Women’s Club and was Secretary of the now defunct Italian Mothers Club.
Lorraine will be deeply missed by her sons, James Gioia and his wife, Maureen of Hampton, NH and Alexander Gioia and his wife, Genifer of North Andover; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
