Eva Nell West, 89, of Irwinville, Georgia, died Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Big Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Sonny Pate, the Rev. Travis Graham, and Bobby Mulkey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Monday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. West was born May 8, 1928, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late J.H. & Myrtle Lowery Crawley. She was an elementary teacher in Mystic and taught at Sunny Dale Training Center as well. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. Mrs. West enjoyed writing poetry and wrote articles for The Ocilla Star. She loved to fish and spend time with her family. They recall many happy picnics at Oscewitchee Spring. Mrs. West was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church, where she coordinated the card ministry, hand-writing notes of encouragement and condolence to members of the community for over 40 years.
She is survived by her two sons: Bruce & Brenda West of Kathleen, Georgia and John West of Irwinville, Georgia; grandchildren: Amy West Cone & Randy Cone, Sonya Hampton Burns & Klayton Burns, Nathan & Laresa West, Holly West Graham & Travis Graham, David & Alicia West, Lena West and Dorsey West; great-grandchildren: Chris Bryant, Colby Godwin, Will Godwin, Lauren Grace Godwin, Joshua Walls, Makaila Walls, Zoie West, Hunter West, Tucker Graham, Mercer West, West Burns, Nora Jane Burns, Chandler West, Tanner Graham, Hayden West, and Harrison West. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Bruce West; a daughter: Jane West Hampton and a grandson: Scott Hampton.
