Obituary

Richard Francis “Bubba” Mattos, a Medford resident for thirty-three years, and formerly of Cambridge, passed away peacefully, at his home, on Thursday, May 11th surrounded by his loving family. He was 61.

Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Richard and Mary (McNamara) Mattos-Higdon. Bubba attended St. Mary High School in Cambridge, and graduated with the class of 1973. He and his high school sweetheart, Roberta (McLeod), married on February 22, 1976 at St. Mary’s Church in Cambridge. The two started their family with love and devotion.

Bubba worked as a logistics coordinator in the computer maintenance industry. He started with Polaroid, where he worked for fourteen years and retired from the company, Decision One in 2013 after twenty-one years of service.

In his spare time, Bubba enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. You would often find him sitting on his deck watching his favorite Boston sports teams. There was not one team that he favored most. He loved them all equally. When on holiday, Bubba and his family would travel to Yarmouth on Cape Cod. While there, he loved to eat at the local restaurants, especially Captain Parkers. He also enjoyed golfing on many of the courses throughout the Cape.

He was the devoted father of Kristen Meagher and her husband James of Medford, Nicole Stallions and her husband Jesse of Burlington and Rachel Mattos of Medford. He was the loving grandfather of Celia, Conor and Drew Meagher and Benjamin Stallions. Bubba was the dear brother of Stephen Mattos and his wife Barbara of Burlington, Ronald Mattos and his wife June of Medford, Helen Rock and her husband Jeff of Bristol, RI; and the brother-in-law of Nancy McLeod of Medford, Margaret Mahoney of Medford, Joanne McEachern and her husband John of Burlington.
