James Edwin “Jimmy” Brown, 82, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Friday, May 12, 2017, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County, with Elder Travis Fussell and Elder Jimmy Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Brown was born March 10, 1935, in Irwin County, Georgia to the late Lucius L. & Sibbie Clifford Stone Brown. He lived in the community all of his life and was a lifelong farmer. Mr. Brown was a member of Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church where he was Deacon emeritus, serving as a deacon for over 40 years and he also sang in the church choir.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Pettis Brown of Irwin County; children: Keith Allen & Susan Brown of Fitzgerald, Mark Edwin Brown of Ocilla and Sherri Lynn & Raymond Schalch of Ocilla; four grandchildren: Kayla Ann & Seth Wooten, Kurt Allen Brown & fiancé Lacey Tomberlin, Jarrett Samuel Schalch and William Luke Schalch. Several nieces and nephews also survive as well as his faithful dog companion, Mikey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Brown and a sister, Betty Day.
