Arnaldo Monteiro, 66 of New Bedford died May 8, 2017 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the husband of Kendra A. (Harrison) Monteiro.
Born in St. Vincente, Cape Verde, he was raised in Dakar, Senegal, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Monteiro was formerly employed by Cornell-Dublier before retiring from Duro Textiles.
He played semipro soccer in New Bedford and was fluent in English, French, Wolof, Portuguese, Creole, Arabic and Spanish.
Mr. Monteiro served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Orlando "Lannie" Monteiro of Providence and Arnaldo "Nuni" Monteiro Nieives of New Bedford; 4 daughters, Patricia Maysonet and her husband Sabe and Michelle Soto and her husband Alban, all of Florida, Leanne Monteiro and her companion Brian Maldonado and Rudi Fonseca, all of New Bedford; a step-daughter, Mary-Beth Costa and her husband John of Braintree; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, May 13th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday, May 12th from 4-7 PM.
