Collins A. Kydd, Jr., 66, of New Bedford, died Sunday, May 7, 2017 after a brief illness.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Collins A. Kydd, Sr., and of the late Ruth (Azevedo) Cruz and John B. "Duke" Cruz, Jr., he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Collins founded and operated his own successful business Alton Communications Cable Company serving the Northeast coast area. Then under Verizon, he was employed as a drafting engineer. Collins served as President of the New England Chapter of NAMIC (National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications) in 1999.
Survivors include his father, Collins Sr.; his wife, Jacqueline Maye-Kydd; two adoring daughters, London and Arielle Kydd;his stepdaughter, Kristin Kahara; his sister, Susan (Kydd) Ribeiro of Michigan, his nephew, Jonathan Ribeiro of St. Louis, his niece, Nsenga Ribeiro-Anderson of Oklahoma, four grand nieces and nephews, Rance, Imani, Jaevon and Mikalah, his aunt, Beverly (Azevedo) Cardoso, two uncles, Louis Azevedo and David Azevedo, his loving cousins Mary Ann Firmino, Joseph Edmund Firmino, Sylvia Ann Soares, Arthur John Soares, Leon Dash, Alan Dash and many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Collins was a devoted husband and father and when not working, spent most of his time with his family on day trips and going out to eat with the girls. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots fan. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday May 16, 2017 at 11:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10-11:30 AM prior to the service.
