Obituary

James Condon was born on February 22, 1930 in Brockton. Born an only child, and brought into this world lovingly by his mother, Teresa (Tess) (Cleary) Condon and his father James Washington Condon, coincidentally born on his father’s birthday. We all resided together with his parents at his homestead at Grafton Street in Brockton until his family of four children outgrew the home and we moved to the homestead of his wife of 60 years Geraldine (Gerry) (Lupica) Condon and enough room to raise their four children Jim, Betty, Susan and Chris. To well provide for his family he worked for the majority of his life as a truck driver traveling on day trips as well as and long trips for Quinn Freight Lines. He was a member of Teamsters Local 653. He did not like the long trips as he was away from his family too long and missing our 5pm dinners. After his trucking days he became a Professional Photographer for weddings and special events, and finally ending his retirement working for the Brockton Court system. Jim was on the Board of Directors and Secretary for the Teamsters Retires Club and a member of American Legion Post 35.

He had many hobbies and interests, especially taking his family on camping trips traveling to historical sites. He loved buying cars every couple of years, using the excuse we needed a new vehicle to pull the appropriate pop up tent and a 24 foot travel trailer. He had great mechanical skills and loved working on the vehicles himself. He would plan the trips getting to our destination using as many back roads as possible. He was very proud patriarch the family and engaged in many activities with his children in boy scouts, coaching baseball for his son and grandsons, attending all ball games and loved visiting his parents' home in Brant Rock Marshfield.

He lived by the Lords works, a true child of God, and showed it by the thoughtful way he spoke and his involvement in the Catholic Church, as he was a teacher of children Catholic Classes and Manger of the CCD Program. He was a Franciscan of the 3rd order of Saint Francis and lecturer during Masses at several churches in Brockton.

His biggest passion was taking care of his wife and family, as well as the game of Golf. He loved golf so much he insisted they buy a condo at Fairway Oaks Condominiums which was next to D.W. Field Golf Course. Jimmy was an avid consistent golfer, his long accurate swing was admired by many of his golfing buddy's. He played many tournaments, recently winning first place of his age group, played at a level only achieved by few. Although he was smaller in size than his competitors he could swing like the biggest and best. His accomplishments were many but true to himself he never boasted. In the past years he strove to improve for his own satisfaction. He left this world after a short illness on the early morning of May 7th surrounded by his family.

James is survived by his children James M. of Carver, Susan C. of Hanson, and Christopher J. Condon and his wife Elizabeth of Raynham; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. James was also predeceased by his daughter Betty Carter.

Visiting hours will be in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday 2-4 and 6-8pm. A funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Friday at 8am for a funeral mass in St. Edith Stein Parish at 9am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery.
