Obituary

Mary Lou “Lulu” (Scanlan) Flanagan, 76, of Medway, died peacefully on Sunday, May 7, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of George E. Flanagan who died in 2010.

Born in Boston on December 1, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Gibbons) Scanlan.

Mrs. Flanagan grew up in Arlington, graduated from Arlington High School and resided in Medway for more than fifty years.

Before her retirement, she worked at EMC and formerly at Data General.

Along with her son, Mark, Jack Scanlan and other family members, Mary co-wrote a book, Generations of Hidden Lake.

Mrs. Flanagan volunteered at the Medway Library and was a member of the Medway Garden Club. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, enjoyed travel but most importantly spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by four sons, Michael Flanagan and his wife Laura of Medway, Mark Flanagan of Framingham, John Flanagan of Medway and George Flanagan and his wife Jessica of Astoria, Queens, New York and seven grandchildren, Kevin, Connor, Zachary, Tyler, Caroline and Kieran Flanagan and Sydney Porter.

She is also survived by two brothers, Thomas Scanlan of Weeki Wachee, Florida and Phillip Scanlan of Amelia Island, Florida and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Charlie Scanlan, II.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Friday, May 12 at 9:15 a.m. from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 10 a.m..

Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 - 8 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Mary’s memory to the Medway Public Library, 26 High St., Medway, MA 02053.
