Obituary

George J. Kenney, 94 of Whitman, formerly of Randolph and Dorchester, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at South Shore Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in East Boston, he was the son of the late George H. Kenney and Anna (Prejean). He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II then worked in sales for many years.

He was most proud of his family and his favorite thing to do was to spend time with his children and grandchildren. George loved to travel with his wife, Helen, and they visited many states from Maine to Alaska and Hawaii as well as several countries in Europe. He was a passionate sports fan all of his life and enjoyed the Boston Bruins, Red Sox and New England Patriots and was a season ticket holder for many years. He was an avid reader and read the newspaper everyday and was always up to date on current events.

He leaves his beloved wife of 72 years Helen “Edna”(Meads). He was the loving father of Maureen Mauriello and her husband Joseph of Kingston, Janis DeChellis and her husband Paul of Whitman, Judith Elson and her husband Paul of Brockton, Joan Crowell and her husband Kenneth of West Bridgewater, Nancy Gugliotta and her husband Donald of Falmouth, Georganne Sullivan and her husband Michael of Bridgewater, and Denise Nagle and her husband Gary of Westwood. He was predeceased by his sister Claire Anderson and is survived by his brother-in-law Robert and many nieces and nephews.

Loving “Grampy” of Susan (DeChellis) Bina, Laura (DeChellis) Baker and her husband Ryan, Jennifer (DeChellis) Derby and her husband Nathan, Paul Elson and his wife Kate, Cynthia (Elson) Nardulli and her husband John, Michael Crowell and his fiancée Diane Bourque, Stacey (Crowell) Paretchan and her husband Matthew, Brian Crowell and Jeanine Bresett, Christopher Gugliotta and Katie Gugliotta , and Jessica Sullivan and Michael Sullivan. Loving Great Grandfather of Matthew, Kelly and Shannon Nagle, Joseph, Kyle and Riley Bina, Lexi and Lily Baker, Ella, Morgan and Samantha Derby, Claire and Mary Elson, Viviana and Dominic Nardulli, Madison and Zachary Paretchan, and Liam Crowell.

Visitation will be at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman on Wednesday, May 10 from 6:30-9:00pm. Funeral services will be Thursday at 8:15am from the Chapel followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00am in the Holy Ghost Church in Whitman. Burial to follow at 11:15am in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
