Obituary

SEYMOUR, CT. — Alan B. Collinge, 80, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Monday May 1, 2017. He was born in Acushnet, MA on December 3, 1936 to Ernest Collinge and Clara Ashworth Collinge.

Alan was predeceased by his nephew Robert Collinge of NH, his brother David Collinge of FL, and niece Judy Collinge of NH. He is survived by his life-long friend Wendy Haskell of CT, Roberts wife Diana Heath of NH, his nieces; Nancy and husband Dr. Victor Brooks of FL, Marjorie and husband George MacDonald, Jr. of FL, Priscilla and husband Leo Saucier III of NH, as well as their children.

Alan obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at New Bedford Institute of Technology in 1958 (University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, North Dartmouth, MA) and spent many years working in the metal/fire door/partition industry, serving many communities around Yale University and the state of Connecticut.

He was awarded honorable discharge upon completion of an 8 year commitment with The United States Army Reserves as a Senior TandemRotor Helicopter Mechanic, Specialist 5th Class.

His interests in skiing, antiques, model trains and trolley car tokens created many opportunities to travel the United States over the years. Alan was a proud member of the Widow’s Son Lodge #66 AF & AM (Masonic Lodge) in Branford, CT for 57 years. Positions held were Treasurer, Board of Trustees, Associate Grand Marshall and Lodge Master Mason. He also enjoyed taking his mother on trips to Bermuda and traveling to his family’s house in NH for the holidays with his cat, Minou.

A memorial service for Alan will be held at the WILSON CHAPEL, 479 County Street, New Bedford, MA on Monday May 8, at 12 Noon with visitation from 11:00 – 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to BrightFocus Foundation at www.brightfocus.org.
