New Bedford – Luzia C. (Batista) Dias, age 96 of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of the late Joao C. Dias and the daughter of the late Joaquina (Das Merces) and Joao Batista Machado.
Born in Terceira, Azores, Luzia was a machine operator for Aerovox Co.
She is survived by 3 children; son, Helder Dias of Florida; daughters, Maria de Sousa and her husband, Lino of Acushnet and Elsa Camara of New Bedford; 9 Grandchildren; 11 Great-Grandchildren; a brother, Joao Machado as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Her funeral will be Wednesday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M.
