Obituary


Viola “Yiayia” (Georgacopoulos) Stevens, age 100, of Attleboro formerly of Brockton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Life Care Center of Attleboro. Viola was the wife of the late Francis W. Stevens and mother of the late Bessie (Sperison) Donovan. Born in Ipswich, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Kaleroy (Spiliotis) Georgacopoulos. She was raised and educated in Cambridge. Viola owned and operated the Fenway Flyer Diner in Boston until 1973, was the Cafeteria Manager for New England Telephone from 1973-1986 and retired in 1996 from Massasoit Community College. Viola enjoyed time with family, sitting outside in her backyard, the beach and cooking.

Viola is survived by two grandsons, Christopher Donovan and his wife Colleen of Mansfield and Jon Donovan and his wife Sharon of Norton and four great grandchildren Elizabeth, Sarah, Matthew and Myles. She is also survived by son-in law George Donovan and wife Barbara. She was the aunt of Ted Chunias, Polly Liapis, Bill Ellis, Ted Eliopoulos, Caroline “Roi” Arena-McLoughlin and Donna Saint-Laurent, and sister of the late Martha Chunias and Mary Eliopoulos.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Monday 5-8pm. Additional visitation will be held Tuesday in the Greek Church of the Annunciation, 6 Park Avenue, Attleboro, from 9-10am, followed by a funeral Service at 10am. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
