Obituary

Josephine Cherone passed away peacefully on May 1, 2017. She was 87 years old.

Josephine was born and raised in Malden, Massachusetts where she lived most of her Life. She graduated from MHS in 1947 where she was an all-star athlete in both Basketball and Field Hockey.

She was a Boston University, Sargent College graduate where she received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, Health and Allied Sciences in 1951. She also served in The U.S. Army where she went to Army Medical School at Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio, TX where she became a registered physical therapist in 1956. She went on to teach close to 20 years in the Malden School Department as a Physical Education teacher as well as going back to school in 1976 to receive a Masters Degree in Educational Administration and again in 1979 to receive a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Secondary School Administration. Both at Boston State College.
Josephine was a devout Catholic and loved participating in all aspects of her faith which included bible studies, spiritual retreats and teaching Sunday school as well as volunteering. She loved spending time with her family and friends but above all, Josephine loved being a Mother. She was devoted to her five sons and nothing gave her greater joy in Life then seeing them happy.

Josephine was the wife of the late Samuel G. “Sam” Cherone. She was the beloved mother of Steven Cherone of Brockton, Gregory Cherone and his wife Lara of Malden, Gary Cherone, Michael Cherone of Malden, and Mark Cherone of Billerica. Josephine was the dear sister of Michael Morelli of Stoneham, Richard Morelli of FL, and the late Frank Morelli. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held from the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home 865 Main Street, Malden on Saturday May 6th at 9:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Joseph’s Church 770 Salem Street, Malden at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday May 5th from 4-8pm. Interment will be in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
