Obituary

Loyal husband, loving father, and dedicated public servant, Lloyd B. Havird died Monday, May 1, 2017, in San Diego, California, with family by his side at age 85.

Graveside services with full Navy Honors will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:00 until 10:00 AM at the funeral home.

Lloyd was born in Augusta, Georgia, to John and Kate Havird during the Great Depression. One of ten siblings, Lloyd graduated from the Academy of Richmond County and later from Bob Jones University. He spent 24 years serving the nation as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy, spending over 8 years of his career afloat defending American freedom across the world’s oceans. Lloyd married the late Iris Henry early in his naval career and became the proud father of three children. Following his naval service, Lloyd served as an Adjunct Professor at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, before relocating to San Diego in retirement to be near family.

Lloyd is survived by his three children, Pamela E. Havird, Lloyd Havird, II, and Lawrence Havird; his sister, Constance Havird Skalak; and six grandchildren, Tyler, Spencer, Elizabeth, Riley, Avery, and Reese.

Pallbearers will be Lloyd Bradley Havird, II, Lawrence Havird, Elizabeth Havird, Bradley Usry, Horace Usry, Victor Skalak, Meyer Skalak, and Parker Rhodes.
