Obituary

GRANBY – Gerard A. “Gerry” Archambault, 86, of Granby, was Called Safely Home on Friday, April 28, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family, his wonderful caregivers and his comrades-at-arms. He was born in Holyoke on November 3, 1930, a beloved son of the late Henry R. and Yvonne M. (Coderre) Archambault. He was raised in Holyoke, graduated from Assumption Preparatory School in Worcester and later Holyoke Community College, and moved to Granby in 1957. From 1994 until 2014, Gerry and his wife, Claire, enjoyed being “snowbirds” in sunny Fort Myers, Florida. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of Corporal. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Army of Occupation of Germany Medal. Following his military service, he returned to Holyoke and was employed for 27 years at the former Ampad Corporation, retiring as a Quality Control Manager. He was a member of the Granby American Legion Post 266 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3104 in South Hadley. He was also a past Exalted Ruler of the Chicopee Lodge of Elks No. 1849, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1849 and a former member and longtime volunteer at the Fairview Knights of Columbus Council 4044, all in Chicopee. He was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby where he served his Parish for many years as the Education Director for their Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes and a former Vice-President of the first Parish Council of the Parish. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his beloved son, Raymond G. Archambault who was Called Home on July 30, 2004. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Claire G. (Boisjolie) Archambault. They were married on November 19, 1955 at the former Rosary Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 61 years of happiness together. Besides his wife, he leaves his loving son and daughter-in-law, Richard G. Archambault and his wife, Kathy, of Villa Hills, KY; his three cherished grandchildren, R. J. Archambault, Rachel Archambault and Brittney Kane; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Archambault and Boisjolie families. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 9 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family has requested in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke Activity Fund, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
