Obituary


Gregg Fontecchio, 50, of Medway, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Gregg was the beloved husband of 24 years to Patty (McManus) Fontecchio, devoted father to their five children, Robert, Arianna, Sam, Daniel and Emma; and brother to Glen Fontecchio and husband Thom of Rhode Island. Born in Newton and raised in Westwood, he was the son of the late Ernest (Al) and Joan (Malthaisel) Fontecchio.

Gregg was a graduate of Westwood High School Class of 1985. He graduated with Advanced Standing from Johnson & Wales Culinary Arts in 1988 with degrees in Culinary and Pastry Arts. Additionally, he held a certificate in Kurse far Zuckergestalrung in Bad Ems Germany. He was the General Manager of Food and Beverage at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, through Restaurant Associates. Throughout his successful career he worked at many restaurants including The Ritz Carleton in Boston, The Charles Hotel in Cambridge, The Sheraton Boston Hotel, The Westin Waltham Boston, The Parsippany Hilton in New Jersey, The Ipswich Country Club, The Andover Marriott, The Westin Grand Bohemian in Orlando, Florida, and The Jalousie Plantation Soufriere, St Lucia (West Indies).

Gregg’s passionate nature shone through in all areas of his life, from his family, his work, and to his love of Jesus. He lived life to the fullest every day, giving 110% to every endeavor. “No,” was never an option for him. His willingness to take calculated risks combined with his many talents enhanced his career and the lives of everyone whom he loved and who loved him. He used his building and woodworking skills to create a beautiful home for his family. He loved practical jokes, the ocean and all music genres from Jimmy Buffet to The Clash. He’ll be remembered for his mischievous nature, delicious meals, and dedication to his family and friends.

Gregg is also survived by members of Patty’s family including her parents Joseph and Marcie McManus, formerly of Wellesley, and her siblings: Kevin and Michelle Coughlin of Natick; Michael and Raina McManus of Wellesley, Kevin McManus and Jennie Cunningham of Exeter, NH; Bryan and Kathy Dillon of Palm Springs, CA; Bob and Anne Furdon of Medway; George and Eileen Nelson of Millis. He will also be missed by his many loving nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 1st from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Ginley–Crowley Funeral Home, (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway MA.

A celebration of Gregg’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 2nd 11:00 AM at The New England Chapel, 40 Kenwood Circle, Franklin, MA.

Gregg will be laid to rest on Wednesday, May 3rd 1:00 PM at The Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut Street, Newton Centre, MA.
