Obituary

FALL RIVER – Elvira Sousa Cabral, age 97 of Fall River, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the Fall River Jewish Home with her family by her side. Born in Capelas, São Miguel, Açores, she was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Cabral and the daughter of the late Jose de Sousa Pimentel and the late Maria do Carmo Pimentel. Prior to retiring, Elvira worked as a Seamstress for Rondo Mfg. on Rodman St. Fall River. In the 1940’s & early 50’s, Elvira was the Registrar and village Postmaster Clerk for the Capelas Post Office (Correio das Capelas). She was a parishioner of Santo Christo Church. She was an avid reader, and she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and most of all spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son Joseph M. Cabral of Coral Springs, FL and her daughter Eldora C. Moore of Portsmouth, RI; 4 grandchildren: Becky Velazquez, Nina Soares, Sara Moore, & Adam Moore; 4 great grandchildren: Alexa & Gabriella Velazquez, Mia Carvalho, Madeline Soares; and many beloved nieces & nephews. Elvira was predeceased by her siblings: Maria do Carmo Carvalho, Jose Pimentel & Francisco Pimentel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fall River Jewish Home, 538 Robeson Street, Fall River, MA 02720 or to the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.

Her funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main Street, Fall River here on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Santo Christo Church, Columbia Street at 9:00 A.M. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery, Stafford Road, Fall River. Calling hours are on Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 3-6 P.M. www.rogersfuneral.com.
