Obituary

Guy F. Campanile, 89, of Methuen, passed away after a brief illness on April 22, 2017 surrounded by his devoted family at Lawrence General Hospital.

A story of a person’s life cannot be summed up in a paragraph as to what makes a man. What makes a man is how he is remembered by his family. Guy always being a person to advocate fiercely for his family was known as a protector, provider, and a deeply devoted family man. Always having an incredible sense of humor, a fantastic laugh, a sharp sense of wit, and an ever present listening ear, Guy had the uncanny ability to pass on his decades of wisdom to anyone who would seek his profound advice. He was born and raised in Lawrence, MA to his hardworking parents Francesco and Armida (Mantica) Campanile, where devotion to family was instilled at an early age. After graduating with the Class of 1945 from Lawrence High School, he felt the call of service and proudly enlisted to serve his country. Guy was a decorated WWII US Navy veteran. After serving his nation, he married his sweetheart, Teresa (Carpenter), in a simple, yet beautiful ceremony and settled in Methuen to raise his family. Later in his mother’s life, the roles were reversed; he and his amazing wife took care of her, with no hesitation, for the rest of her days. Guy was a man who was known in many different circles and wore many different hats throughout his life. He dabbled in many different ventures throughout his long life; such as working in the Lawrence Mills and Western Electric, being his own boss as a free lance contractor or found toiling with the sweat on his brow in his auto body shop, or dabbling in the real estate market, but his true calling belonged to Sears Roebuck Co. Guy never viewed his 30 year tenure at Sears as “work” but as a true enjoyment where he made many lifelong friends. He was a man that will be fondly remembered and missed by all.

Guy was loved, cherished and revered by all who knew him. He is survived by his four children; his daughter Diane Orenberg of Tewksbury, MA, his son Robert Campanile, his son David Campanile, and his daughter Sharon Campanile, all of Methuen. Guy was the loving grandfather to his three grandchildren; Kristy, Keri and Matthew, and the beloved great-grandfather to his four great-grandchildren; Kyle, Finn, Quinn and Ashlyn. He is also survived by many loving cousins. In addition to his parents, Guy was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa, in 2015, in which he celebrated 65 years of marriage. Additionally he was predeceased by his two sons, Frank Campanile and Kenneth Campanile.

To honor Guy’s wishes all services were privately held.
