Dorothy E. Wheeler. 86

Dateline: Norton, MA

Dorothy E. (Robinson) Wheeler, age 86, of Norton, passed away peacefully, at the home of her daughter in Seekonk on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. She was the beloved wife of Guy David Wheeler.

Born in Auburn, Maine on August 21, 1930 she was the youngest child of the late Harry and Hattie (Hersey) Robinson. She was raided in the village of North Auburn, Maine with her six brothers and sisters, surrounded by her extended family, aunts, uncles and cousins. Although raised in humble beginning, she often spoke of her happy childhood and adventures with her siblings.

Following graduation from Edward Little High School, Dottie entered the United States Air Force with her sister Helen, where she proudly served her country during the Korean War by charting weather maps.

It was at Olmstead Air Force Base in Middletown, PA where she met and married Guy D. Wheeler from Taunton, MA on July 16. 1952.

After being honorably discharged, Dorothy and Guy returned to Taunton,
MA where they made their home for the first ten years of marriage, raising family. In 1962, the couple moved to Norton, MA with their daughters Pam, Pat and Penny.

Prior to retiring in 1982, Mrs. Wheeler had been employed at the former Kilburn Glass Co. in Norton.

Dottie remained busy in her retirement, which included being an active part of her grandchildren’s lives, and caring for them when needed and attending countless sporting events.

Dottie also enjoyed volunteering her time at the Norton Senior Center and the Chartley United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed playing bingo and whist with her friends, and road trips and bus trips with her daughters.

Dottie was an avid Sports fan. Especially dear to her were the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. In her younger years she attended many Red Sox games at Fenway Park.

In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by her devoted daughters Pamela Lange and her husband Mike of Attleboro, Patricia Chu and her husband Gary of Seekonk, and Penny Hahn and her husband Bill of Wells, Maine. She was the adoring grandmother of Joshua Lange and his wife Laura-Lee, Christopher Chu and his wife Angel, Nathan Lange and his girlfriend Alicia, Timothy Chu and his wife Heather, Lauren Chu and William Jack Hahn. She was the cherished great grandmother of Ethan, Julianne, Lukas, Mason, London and Mya. She was the dear sister of Helen Carlson of CT and the late Charles, Arlene, Marion, Perl and Barbara.
She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and close friends.

Dorothy’s family wishes to thank the staff of Golden Living Center, Attleboro on George St., the staff at Sturdy Memorial Hospital and Hospice, CVNA of Attleboro for their excellent care.

Her funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, April 29th at 1:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home. 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial with military honors will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.

Visitation will be held on Saturday morning prior to the funeral services beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Dorothy’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to her favorite charity, St. Jud Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
