Obituary

Betty Ingler Ponsler, 90, Anderson, died April 23, 2017 at Community Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born December 3, 1926, the daughter of Robert and Myrtle (Kirk) Ingler, in Oatsville, (Pike County) Indiana. She had two sisters, Thelma Borders and Martha Annabelle Simpson.

Betty attended Oatsville (Pike County) Elementary School and graduated from Mount Olympus High School and Ball State Teacher's College in 1948. She began working as a teacher of English, social studies, as well as being the librarian at Brookeville and later Columbus School System. While living in Columbus, she met Henry Harold Ponsler. In 1953, they married, and moved to Chesterfield where together they raised seven children and established a successful building and contracting business. Her main focus was her family and community. She also worked as a librarian in Anderson Community Schools, Anderson College and Ball State University. She taught religious education at Anderson and Daleville Community Schools. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma society of outstanding women educators, and attended the Church of God. Betty also had a commitment to bettering the lives of the disadvantaged and served on numerous boards and committees throughout her life and continually instilled in her children the importance of caring for others. She also was employed as a paralegal for 10 years advocating for the poor who needed representation and assistance in bettering their lives.

Survivors include her seven children, David (Sandra) Ponsler, Mark (Annamaria) Ponsler, Martha Ponsler, Paul (Kelly) Ponsler, Harold Lee (Marti ) Ponsler, Harriet (Blair) Prigg and Barbara Roberts; ten grandchildren, Nicole, Josiah, Anna, Tim, Kimberly, Chris, Michelle, Lori, David and Derek; several great grandchildren, a nephew, Steve Simpson and a niece, Joetta Scherb.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Harold Ponsler, her parents, two sisters and an infant grandson, Jason David.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Pastor Don Collins of Park Place Church of God officiating. Burial will follow in Bronnenberg Cemetery, Chesterfield.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be given to Second Harvest Food Bank.
