Barbara Yancey Sumner, 74, of Tifton passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017, at Legacy Village in Tifton. Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Joseph L. Crumley officiating. Mrs. Sumner will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 25, 2017, from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen- Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Danny Ogletree, Randy Ogletree, Tim Tucker, Austin Tucker, Tyler Green and Reuben Pendarvis will serve as pallbearers.
Born April 7, 1943 in Tifton, Mrs. Sumner was the daughter of the late Leonard Floyd Yancey and Lola Bell Worley Yancey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Ray Sumner; one son, Benji Sumner; four brothers, Harold Yancey, Ivan Yancey, Curtis Yancey and Herman Yancey; and two sisters, Emogene Giddens and Willie Bell Ogletree. She retired from Heatcraft and was a member of Vanceville Congregational Christian Church.
Mrs. Sumner is survived by one son, Brian Otis Sumner of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Ken Gailey of Pelham, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Jacob Sumner, Josh Sumner, Jeremy Sumner, Heather Heisler, Brianna Sumner, Allison Gailey and Kaitlyn Gailey; and two special nieces, Gloria Hobbs and Elaine Giddens.
