Edward Walter Susko
February 28, 1926-April 18, 2017
Edward Walter Susko, 91, passed away on April 18,after a long battle with dementia with his family at his side.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan on Feb.28,1926 and moved to Anderson in 1962 where he began working at Delco Remy as a tool and die cast engineer until he retired in 1988.
He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Jean, and four daughters, Anita Wiley, Janice Susko, Joan Susko (Chris Walker), and Maureen (Joel) Eliason. He had nine grandchildren: Edward Wiley, Nikosha (Marcus) Orchard, Michelle and Jay Naidoo, Andrea (David) Angel, Jennifer Duc (Ryan Rinaldi), Rachel (Wayne) Blosser, Isaac (Nikki) Eliason, and Wesley Cottrell. He also had 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Martha Susko, and his brother, Ray Susko.
He attended Wayne State University in Detroit in the 1940s and worked as a draftsman and tool and die engineer for the Tan Corporation before relocating to Anderson.
He was also a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Mary’s Church.
Edward was a devoted father and husband. A talented piano player, he spent many evenings playing Dean Martin, Sinatra, and Bing Crosby songs for his family.
He also took his family on unforgettable summer vacations from California to Mexico City and Washington DC inspiring a love for the amazing sites in this country and beyond.
Edward’s work ethic influenced every aspect of his life. He was one of the sharpest dressed execs at Delco, he had the most neatly manicured lawn, and the shiniest General Motors car; his pride in his work was evident in every aspect of his life.
He also loved to deer hunt in Michigan and fish in Canada and the Great Lakes.
Edward was an honorable, honest, strong, respectable man who will be greatly missed.
The family would like to express their sincerest thanks to his home health care workers Lisa Walker, Jasmine Hudson, and Stacey McGhee and the St. Vincent’s Hospice staff who cared for him with love and skill, and showed him great compassion throughout his difficult times.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00pm on Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Daniel Shine officiating. The burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at the church annex.
