Obituary

Johnny Moore, Sr., 73, of Wray, Georgia, died Sunday, April 16, 2017, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, April 20, 2017, at the Irwinville Baptist Church, in Irwinville, Georgia, with the Rev. Sonny Pate officiating. Interment will follow in the Irwinville Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6PM until 8PM, Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Moore was born November 4, 1943, in Irwin County, Georgia, to Mattie Osteen Moore of Irwinville and the late Wilbur Chapman Moore. He was a graduate of Ocilla High School. Mr. Moore was a legend in die repair and was known to be one of the best in the industry. He began his career with Tifton Aluminum in Tifton and later transferred to Alumax in Plant City, Florida where he retired. He returned to Georgia seven years ago and began working alongside his late brother, Drib Moore, at Elixir Industries in Douglas. He enjoyed growing things, especially tomatoes, peppers, and flowers. Mr. Moore was an avid golfer and also spent time fishing and hunting. While in Plant City, he coached little league baseball and football while his children were growing up. Mr. Moore was a hard worker who worked his entire life. When not working, he loved to “tinker and piddle” around the house. He was a family man and loved the times that his family would all gather together. The annual gatherings have changed over the years with grands and great-grands being added to the fold. Games have changed as well, from active games and croquet tournaments to more recent wheelchair races. Mr. Moore will leave a legacy to his family to cherish what really matters and enjoy times spent together. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Plant City, Florida

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 52 years, Brenda Moore of Wray; three children: Johnny Bryant Moore, Jr. of Wray, Michael Leon Moore, Sr. & Lori Dyann Moore of Wray and Lisa Michelle Miller & Tom Miller of Plant City, Florida; grandchildren: Lindsey Rossi & Wesley of Largo, Florida, Kadie Cox of Plant City, Florida, Michael Leon Moore, Jr. & Taylor Moore of Wray, Kelsey Moore, Corbyn Miller, and Caleb Moore, all of Plant City, Florida and Dakota Ray Moore of Wray, Georgia; three great-grandchildren: Michael Leon Moore, III, Paisley Celeste Moore, and Audrey Monroe Mahanke; two brothers: Jimmy Ray & Christine Moore of Rome, New York and Joe & Donna Moore of Callahan, Florida; a brother-in-law, George Donnell of Charleston, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law: Betty Jean Moore of Irwinville and Johnnie Lea Fordyce of Brevard, North Carolina. as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his devoted cat, Prissy. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde V. Moore and Wilbur Darrell “Drib” Moore and a sister, Ann Donnell.
