Obituary




Richard F. "Red" McShera, 70, of Worcester, passed away in his home surrounded by his loving
family on Thursday, April 13th. He joins in Heaven, his best friend and brother, Robert McShera
who passed away on January 23rd. He is survived by his loving wife, Christine M. (Giguere)
McShera; his children, Kellie A. O'Connell and her husband, Kevin of Worcester, Patrick T.
Giguere and Michael T. Giguere, both of Worcester; his brothers, John McShera and his wife,
Ellen of Myrtle Beach, SC, William McShera and his wife, Marion of Worcester and David
McShera and his wife, Nancy of Valrico, FL; his sisters, Betty Belanger of Meredith, NH, Louise
Burch and her husband, Robert of Leicester, Peggy Richards and her husband, Philip of
Worcester and Mary Fran Terraccino and her husband, Joseph of South Hackensack, NJ; a
granddaughter, Maeve T. O'Connell of Worcester; his former wife, Therese McShera of
Worcester; and many nephews and nieces.
He was born in Worcester, the son of John and Marguerite (Riopel) McShera and graduated
from St. Peter's High School. Richard worked for Killeen Machine Tool Company as Plant
Manager for 50 years. He owned and operated the former Mac's Place of Grand Street, where
he was an active member in the community and took pleasure in providing holiday meals for
anyone that needed a place to go.
Richard was a member of the Don's Place Dog House Club and a loyal fan of all New England
sports. He loved driving to Saratoga to bet on the horse races and upon discovering Facebook,
became an avid user.
Richard was a loving, devoted and generous father to his three children, grampy to his
granddaughter Maeve, and a father figure to more.
His family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Venu Bathini and the oncology and infusion
teams at UMass for the compassionate care they provided Richard during his illness.
His funeral is Tuesday, April 18th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park
Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Calling
hours are Monday, April 17th from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Donations in his
