Obituary

METHUEN, MA: Mary L. (DiFloures) Amidio, 96, of Methuen, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born November 25, 1920 in Haverhill, the daughter of the late Louis and Julia (Kapella) DiFloures. She was one of nine children born to her Italian and Polish immigrant parents. Mary attended Haverhill Schools and as a young woman made bows for Haverhill shoe factories. She was a lifelong Haverhill resident and was employed by the New York Cleaners and Imperial Dye House in Haverhill as a seamstress and presser shortly after marrying the love of her life, the late Giacamo “Jack” Amidio. Mary also dedicated thirty-two years working as a Repair Engineer for AT&T before retiring. She cherished her time with family, most especially her grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by her adoring children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary enjoyed knitting, needle point, crocheting and often shared her beautiful work with family and friends. Her children loved to wear the hand-made clothing she created and her work was so admired that it won a blue ribbon for first prize at the Topsfield Fair. She had a loving heart and used her talents to knit hats and scarfs for Hospice patients, the Dana–Farber Cancer Institute and many others who could benefit from her gift.
She is survived by two daughters; Jackie Paynter and husband Stephen of Haverhill and Tina Byron and husband Thomas of Methuen, two sons; Richard Amidio and wife Nancy of Groveland and Joseph Amidio and wife Joyce of Newton, NH. Mary also leaves behind seven grandchildren; Becky Anderson and husband Michael, Jenny Garby and husband Thomas, Christopher Paynter and wife Chrissy, Lisa Soucy and husband Sean, Erica Riopelle and husband Jonathan, Matthew Amidio and fiancé Amber Beane and Christina Byron, eight great-grandchildren, two brothers; Bernardo DiFloures and wife Mildred and Anthony DiFloures and wife Jean, several nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Mary was predeceased by six sisters; Nancy Rembis, Helen Tidd, Florence Fogel, Louisa Chabot, Josephine Matthews and Irene DiFloures.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 18, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at The Grondin – Carnevale Funeral Home 129 Kenoza Avenue Haverhill, MA 01830. Service will be held from The Grondin-Carnevale Funeral Home Wednesday at 11:00 AM followed by interment at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Haverhill. Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to The Merrimack Valley Hospice 360 Merrimack St. Building 9 Lawrence, MA 01843
