Obituary

John Fisk, 74, of Tifton passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Willson Hospice House in Albany. His funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Dr. Greg Love officiating. Mr. Fisk will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, April 17, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mike Davis, Allen Moore, Adrian Fletcher, Jed Drawdy, Jimbo Scruggs and Josh Ledden will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of First Community Bank in Tifton.

Born August 7, 1942 in Miami, Florida, Mr. Fisk was the son of the late Albert L. Fisk and Eileen Jarrett Beaton. He lived most of his life in Florida, but spent some time in Texas as a young boy. After graduating high school in Miami, Mr. Fisk enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Myers, Virginia and was a member of the Old Guard. As a member of the Old Guard, he was involved in many ceremonial events including welcoming visiting dignitaries, performing in presidential parades, drill team exhibitions, and military burials at Arlington National Cemetery. While in the Old Guard, Mr. Fisk participated in the 100-year anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. The Old Guard is the oldest active duty regiment in the US Army.

After his service in the United States Army, he moved to Florida and worked various jobs before finally settling down with Wayne-Densch, Inc., an Anheuser-Busch distributor in Orlando, Florida. He worked for Anheuser-Busch for 32 years, before retiring in 1996 as a Zone Manager.

John met Sandra Cox in 1973 at the Red Bug Riding Stables and they were married in 1974. His many interests included woodworking, camping, off-road racing, traveling to NASCAR races, old cars, fishing, and working in the yard.

In 1998, John and Sandy moved to Tifton and temporarily retired. In 2004, he started working at First Community Bank of Tifton. He considered everyone at the bank his family and thoroughly enjoyed his time with them. John was a member of the CrossView Baptist Church in Tifton.

Mr. Fisk is survived by his wife, Sandra Cox Fisk of Tifton; one son, Gary Fisk of Kissimmee, Florida; one daughter and son-in-law, Deanne and Steve Weiler of Maryland; and a grandson, Nicholas Weiler.
