Obituary

Walter L. Dean Jr. , 64, of North Stonington, CT passed away peacefully on April 8th, 2017.
Walter was born and raised in California and spent much of his time with his brother exploring the mountains, desert and ocean. He retained a great fondness for California throughout his life. Upon graduating high school, he joined the Coast Guard and served for ten years. His travels in the Coast Guard brought him many places including New Zealand, Tahiti, Hawaii, and even Antarctica. One of his favorite duty stations was a lighthouse in Cape Cod where he met his wife, Connie (French) Dean, while she was in the Air Force. They eventually settled in CT and had three children. He became a marine mechanic where he found great success. He was fortunate to love his work and on any given day could be seen casually strolling to the next boat he was working on in an effortless endeavor to enjoy the small things in life such as a conversation with a passerby, a good cup of coffee, a Winston Light cigarette or a cold Budweiser. He carved a wide swath of friends and colleagues and was sought after for his company and knowledge. He will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to spend time with him. Fair winds and following seas to a Husband, Father, Coast Guardsman, sailor and friend.
Walter is survived by his wife Connie of 39 years, daughter Niki-Lee Dean, son Morgan Dean both of North Stonington, and his son Bronson Dean of Colchester CT, brother Alan Dean of Tehachapi CA, sister Rosana Dean of Russellville, AR and many loving grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, April 13 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. Burial will be private for the family.
