Ron was born on September 16, 1937 in Sisseton, SD to Walter and Ada (Peterson) Hauglie. The family moved to Minneapolis, then Braham, MN where he graduated from high school in 1955. The family settled that same year on a farm in Rush City, MN where they raised registered Holsteins. Ron joined the Army in 1961 and was stationed in Hawaii. After discharge, he farmed in partnership with his father, married, and started a family. In 1970, he took a job with Midwest Breeders and moved to West Union, IA. After his father's death, he returned to the family farm and established the nationally recognized "Viking Dairy". After selling the herd in 1987, he worked in field services for MN Farmers Union until his retirement in 2005. Ron enjoyed reading, politics, NASCAR & boxing, riding his motorcycle, traveling, volunteering, and cheering on his beloved MN Vikings. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed every person he met, and made the most of every day. Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
