LONG, Edward P. of Needham, April 7, 2017. Beloved husband of Judith (Jackson) Long. Devoted father of A. Nora Long of Boston’s North End, Kelly Long of Needham, Kendra Long of Brighton and the late Victoria Long. Brother of Frances Long of GA, Margaret Cunningham of NJ, James Long of Brighton, John Long of VA, Ann Long of NJ, and the late Joseph Long. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ed received his BA in English from La Salle University (1972) and his MA in English from Boston College (1977). He worked as a systems engineer most recently at Travelers Insurance. He was chairman of the New England DB2 Users Group from 2005-2016.
Ed was an avid sailor and member of Community Boating, Boston for over 40 years where he taught sailing to over one thousand people. His other great passion was music and he played guitar for most of his life. While in college, he was a member of the jazz ensemble Bill Lewis and the Contemporary Music Society.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave., NEEDHAM on Tuesday, April 18th at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, Needham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Monday, April 17th from 4-9pm. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
