Obituary

Thomas J. Howell, Jr., age 77, of Medford died Friday, March 24 at Massachusetts General Hospital. The son of the late Thomas J. and Anna M. (Macomber) Howell, he was raised in Somerville and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in East Cambridge. He later graduated from Bentley College. A Saugus resident for many years, Tom operated the Chisholm Motel with his family. He later embarked on a long career as an examiner with the Internal Revenue Service and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. A Medford resident for nearly 20 years, Tom was a warm and kind man who loved the company of his large family and many friends.

A devoted and loving husband to Maryann M. (Santosuosso) Howell, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage, he was a loving brother to Michael Howell and his late wife Jolene and family of Quincy, Albert Howell and his wife Donna and family of Bradley, Ill., Kenneth Howell and his late wife Karen and family of Florida, Carol Dinan and her late husband Robert and family of Saugus, Paul Howell of Florida, Anna Marie Howell of East Boston, the late William Howell, the late Frank Howell and his surviving wife Donna. He was a dear brother-in-law of Nick Santosuosso and his wife Sally and family of Lexington, Rose Giovanni and her husband Joe of Somerville, Joanne Crotty and her husband Ron and family of Medford, Donna Mullen and her husband Bob and family of Reading. Tom was cherished uncle to Doug and Andrea Smith and family of Concord, Jason and Rose Crotty and daughter “Keanna” of Nashua, NH, Dennis and Jennifer Coffen and family of Winchester, Mark and Sarah Mullin of Stoneham, Melvin and Janel Mack and family of South Carolina. He also leaves his special cousin of Kathy Atkinson and family of Revere.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Tuesday, March 28th at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford, at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are also kindly invited to visit at the funeral home on Monday 4 - 8 PM.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Tom’s name to St. Raphael Parish, 38 Boston Ave., Medford, MA 02155.
