Paul J. McVey, a lifetime resident of Andover, passed away at Lawrence General Hospital after a short illness on March 24, 2017. Paul was born on January 12, 1931, to the late Attorney Edward John McVey and Katherine Alice (Sweeney) McVey. Paul was also raised in Andover by his late Aunt Margaret E. Sweeney. Paul graduated from Andover’s Punchard High School in 1949, and attended Macintosh Business School in Lawrence where he met his wife, Ann, with whom he had celebrated 60 years of marriage. After his education, Paul served in the Navy during the Korean War.
Paul was a well-known branch manager for Arlington Trust Company in Andover for many years. Later in his career he worked in sales for Yankee Milk / Agri-Mark. Paul was once a member of the Knights of Columbus, managed several Little League teams, and was involved in Boy Scouts. In the mid-1970’s Paul owned McVey’s Florist in downtown Andover. Paul enjoyed history, traveling, watching the Red Sox, and spending his free time with his extended family.
Paul was predeceased by his wife, Ann E. Smith McVey. He is survived by his children Paul D. McVey and his wife, Joanne, of Haverhill; Katherine A. Werner, and her husband Keith, of Safety Harbor, FL.; and Mary E. Vernaglia and her husband, Mark, of Andover; brother John McVey, and his wife, Jean, of Newburyport, MA; sister-in-law Joanne Powers of Seabrook, NH; grandchildren Katie McVey Palmeira, Kristen McVey, Alexander Waszczuk, Nicholas Waszczuk, A.J. Vernaglia, and Tom Vernaglia. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Edward McVey and his wife, Ruth, of London, Ontario, Canada.
His funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, on Wednesday, March 29th at 10:30.
