Obituary

George K. Barringer, a resident of Medford and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. He was 77 years of age.

George was born in Medford on June 28, 1939. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended St. Francis De Sales Parochial School, and graduated from St. John's High School in Cambridge. He would later go on to take various classes at Stonehill College. George enlisted into in United States Air Forces on October 30, 1961 and served with pride and honor in the 752nd Air Force Band during the beginning of the Vietnam Conflict. He was discharged on July 8, 1965 with the rank of Airman Second Class. George worked for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development for over 30 years, retiring in 1995. George's true passion was playing the drums. He was a 50 year member of the Boston Musicians Association and a member of the Boston Braves. George also played in various Society bands around Boston. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and a proud Charlestown Townie.

George is the beloved husband of 48 years to Diane (Shapiro) Barringer. He is the devoted father of Gail Barringer Lambie and her husband Jansen of Montclair, NJ, and Amy Barringer Lord and her husband Robert of North Reading. He is the loving Pops to Kiera, Jason, Rowan, and Dylan. He is the beloved brother of Marion Joyce and her late husband Tom. He is also survived by his loving nephews Thomas and Brian. Relatives and friends are invited to attend George's funeral on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 8:45AM from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. CHARLESTOWN, followed by his Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 10AM. His burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. His visiting hours will be on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 3 to 7PM in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in George's name to Hallmark Health VNA and Hospice, 178 Savin St., Ste 300, Malden MA 02148.
