New Bedford – David M. DeSousa, age 68, passed away on Wednesday March 22, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Maria L. (Cunha) DeSousa and the son of the late Maria Lourdes (Melo) and Jose Alfredo DeSousa.
Mr. DeSousa was born in Ponta Delgado, St. Michael, Azores and moved to this country on January 27, 1989 where he worked as a Mechanic for Lech Auto Body.
He is survived by his wife Maria, children: Eduardo DeSousa, Carla Amaral, David Sousa, Claudia Sousa Barton and Mafalda Lawrence. 9 grandchildren: Jonathan Sousa Amaral, Timothy Lawrence, Isaiah David, Christian Sousa, Giovanni Eduardo, Tyler Lawrence, Alexandra DeSousa, Isabella Sousa and Lillian Sousa, his siblings Eduarda Sousa, Angela Reis, Noemia Pereira and Alda Sousa as well as several nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and especially his grandchildren.
His funeral will be Monday beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Sunday evening from 4 – 7 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
