Larry M. “Marty” Strickland, 54, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, March 25, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Earlie Holt officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Strickland was born April 2, 1962, in Fitzgerald, Georgia. He lived in the community all of his life and was a former manager with Sonic, Tom’s and Shoney’s Restaurants. Mr. Strickland worked in construction and enjoyed music, entertaining, and owned and operated This and That Thrift Shop. He was a generous man and was a member of Christian Tabernacle.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Vinita Strickland of Fitzgerald; a daughter, Vanity Strickland & Wayne Ellis of Fitzgerald; step-children: Michael Shane Connell of Atlanta and Leanna Hope Bass of Ocilla; three aunts: Kay Blackstock Floyd, Carolyn Blackstock Bedingfield, and Mary Jo Blackstock, all of Fitzgerald; two brothers: Chris Dorrity of Macon and Eddie Dorrity of Fitzgerald and a special cousin, James Reed of Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by his parents, Davis Dorrity and Dorothy Blackstock Dorrity and a grandson, Zayden Zayne Ellis.
