FALL RIVER – Jose Luis deMelo, age 78, passed away on March 22, 2017 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Maria de Lurdes (Macedo) deMelo. Born in Arrifes, São Miguel, Açores, but grew up in Fajã de Baixo. He was the son of the late Virgilio Cabral and Ana (Reis) deMelo. Prior to retirement Jose worked as a bartender for Acoreana Band Club.
Along with his wife he leaves behind his children Luis deMelo (wife Eduarda) of Fall River, Carlos deMelo of Açores and Patricia Ferreira (husband Adelino) of Fall River; siblings Januario deMelo of New Bedford, Jaime deMelo of Fall River, Olga Cardoso of Fall River and João deMelo of New Bedford; grandchildren Kelly and Aaron deMelo and Priscilla and Jordan Ferreira; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Clementina Carreiro and Manuel deLima.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Saturday here at 7:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Santo Christo Church at 8:30 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
