Obituary

                                                                        George P. Gosselin
Manchester– George P. Gosselin, 96, died March 18, 2017 following a brief illness.
He was born in Manchester on May 28, 1920 the eldest of 5 children of Joseph and Yvonne (Lamothe) Gosselin.
He was raised, educated and lived all his life in Manchester with the only significant time away from home spent serving in the U. S. Army as a Medic during World War II. As a combatant in Europe from D-Day through VE– Day, he received the Bronze Star for heroism and the Purple Heart for combat wounds. George's post-war years found him employed as a pharmacy technician and manager at various pharmacies in the greater Manchester area, lastly at the V.A. Medical Center from which he retired in 1982.
He is predeceased by his first wife Simonne (d.1960), his son Richard (d.1962), and his second wife Rachel (d.1988)
George chose to live alone in his Manchester home and thrived there for 28 years. He lead an active life, writing regular columns and features for the Senior Beacon, and Stars & Stripes Magazine. He also co– authored the Veterans Page of the Manchester Union Leader right up until his 90th birthday, when his failing sight made it impossible to compose on his ancient typewriter. George then found ample time to enjoy submarine stories ,scratch tickets, and black raspberry ice cream.
Shortly after his 90th birthday he received the Medal of the Legion of Honor from the French Government.
He was also a Co– Founder of Chapter 395 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and of the Manchester Veterans Council.
Family members include his daughter, Louise T. Landry and her husband, Roland of Alton Bay, his son, Robert P. Gosselin and his wife, Arleen of Hooksett, his sister Theresa Dionne of Florida, 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 19th, 2017 at 10 AM in St. Peter Church, Auburn, where George was a Lector and communicant for many years.
Committal prayers and military honors will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Goffstown Rd.
The family would like to thank the incredible staff of Bedford Falls for the care and compassion they showed for George during his stay. He will be long-remembered there for his gentlemanly demeanor and quick wit.
