Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Richard L. “Dick” Circosta, 81, of the East Forest Park section of Springfield, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, March 20, 2017 surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on May 10, 1935, the son of the late Carmel and Marguerite (Cote) Circosta. He was raised in Springfield and graduated in 1953 from Cathedral High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958 and attained the rank of Personnelman Petty Officer Second Class. He furthered his education and, in 1964, graduated from Western New England College in Springfield. After serving in the Navy, Richard’s first place of employment was with Combustion Engineering, Naval Reactors Division, in Windsor, CT from 1958 to 1968. He then changed career paths and was the original Administrator of Heritage Hall Nursing Home and Retirement Facilities in Agawam from 1968 to 1984. After his career in health care, he was the General Manager for John A. Coccomo & Associates overseeing real estate construction and development until the time of his retirement. He was a member of the YMCA in Springfield for many years and enjoyed many activities such as biking, running, hiking, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed many trips locally and abroad with his wife, Barbara, and his family. His passions included cooking, singing and classical music, especially opera. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Besides his beloved parents, he was also predeceased by his beloved daughter, Cynthia J. Circosta who was Called Home in 1982; and his sister, Nancy Guzzo who was Called Home in 2013. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Barbara E. (Asselin) Circosta. They were married on November 26, 1955 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 61 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving daughters, Deborah Myers and her husband, James, of Woodland Hills, CA and Linda Goodman of Amherst; his five cherished grandchildren, Jason Goodman of Portland, OR, Stephanie Myers of Woodland Hills, CA, Zachary Goodman and his wife, Anais, of Longmeadow, Anthony Myers of the United States Coast Guard Lieutenant currently stationed in the Netherlands and his wife, Claudia, and Joshua Goodman of Orlando, FL; his brother-in-law, Richard Asselin and his wife, Michele, of Holyoke; his uncle, Albert Circosta and his wife, Ann, of East Longmeadow; his niece, Marissa Richards of West Springfield; and his nephew, Mark Miles of the Feeding Hills section of Agawam. His family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff of Baystate Visiting Nurse and Hospice for their wonderful care of Richard. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 123 William Street, Springfield, MA 01105 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
