Perry Mae Carr Camp, age 93, died March 19, 2017 at her home in Water Valley, MS. She was born to the late Mary Elisha Irby Carr and Perry Hawkins Carr, and was the last granddaughter of Emily Shannon Carr and William Perry “Turkey Bill” Carr, who was instrumental in establishing and naming the town of Water Valley. Perry Mae was known as Mom, Mother, Mama, Maw-Maw, Aunt Camp, and Granny. She was an amazing cook and her kitchen and front door were always open to any and all. She designed, created, hand-stitched and beautifully embroidered many quilts for family and close friends. She was a member of Water Valley Church of Christ, and enjoyed fishing and loved many friends who were like family to her.
Visitation is planned for Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 9:00 until 11:00 AM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home with services beginning at 11 AM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks. Bro. David Floyd will officiate the service. Burial will be in Tabernacle Cemetery with Harley Camp, Kevin Dorris, Daniel Dorris, Damon Dorris, Tommy Dorris, and Bobby Camp serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Schmitz, J. D. Clayton, II, Steve Thompson, Gage Dorris, John Forsyth, and Cliff Gardiner.
She is survived by two daughters, Darla Joni Camp-Clayton and husband J. D. “Rock” of Water Valley, MS, and Gay Camp Dorris and husband Billy of Oxford, MS; one son, Ted E. Camp and wife Phyllis of Saltillo, MS; five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilson Camp, one son, Michael “Mike” Camp, one grandson, Craig Dorris, one granddaughter, Justin Marie Groner, and five sisters and four brothers.
