Obituary

Gilmanton-------- Phyllis E. Buchanan 88, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, March 8, 2017 at Laconia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Phyllis was born on January 21, 1929 in Weymouth, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Theodore and Lida (Reynolds) Larson.

Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Wilbur Buchanan of Gilmanton, New Hampshire, who served in World War II all around the world as a U.S. Navy signal man. Phyllis and Wilbur raised their family in Weymouth, Massachusetts, prior to retiring to their vacation home in Gilmanton, New Hampshire. Phyllis is survived by her sister, Lois Larson Taylor of Weymouth, Massachusetts.Phyllis is also survived by herdaughter, Denise Buchanan of Gilmanton, New Hampshire; her son, Keith Buchanan of Plympton, Massachusetts and his wife, Joanne Machernis Buchanan; their children, Ashley Buchanan and her fiancé, Cody Sousa, of North Kingstown, Rhode Island; and Sean Buchanan and and his wife, Molly Boudreau Buchanan of Duxbury, Massachusetts, as well as their two children,Grace Katherine Buchanan and Charles Robert Buchanan.Phyllis was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phyllis loved being with her family during visits in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Phyllis also loved her grand-dog, Blondie, a Golden Retriever.

Phyllis was a proud and active member of her community, and faithfully served the town of Gilmanton as a Selectwoman for a number of years.Shespent many years volunteering for the Gilmanton Corner Library, and later organized volunteers to help keep the Library doors open. Phyllis was an avid gardener and member of the Gilmanton Garden Club. She also enjoyed creating an extensive antique doll collection.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH, 03303.

In lieu of flowers or for those who would like to donate, memorial contributions may be made to the Gilmanton Corner Public Library, P.O. Box 504 Gilmanton, NH 03237; or to Compassus Health Care (hospice services), 170 South River Road, Building 2, Bedford, New Hampshire 03110.
