Obituary

Mary T. O'Malley, a resident of Medford for over fifty years, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, March 17th.

Born in West Roxbury, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Mary (Walsh) Warren. Mary attended Everett High School and graduated with the class of 1941. She and her husband John were married on June 17, 1946. The two were devoted to each other and their children.

An only child, Mary always wanted to have a big family. She had seven loving children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren that she loved more than anything. Mary was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the matriarch of her family. Her strong will and perseverance, was admirable. She was a former member of the St. Francis Mothers Club and loved to be involved in community life. Mary enjoyed spending her time helping those in need. For many years, she transcribed braille for the blind.

An activist for her community and neighborhood, Mary was able to get the City of Medford to recognize Fulton Spring Road and get the street paved. Because of her efforts, the city maintained and repaired the neighborhood that was formerly a private way.

In her spare time, she loved to cook for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren while spending quality time with family, friends and her pets.

She was the beloved wife of the late John E. O’Malley, who passed away in 1988. The two shared forty-two loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Kevin O’Malley and his wife Barbara DePesa, Neal O’Malley and his wife Nancy, Dennis O’Malley and his wife Bernadette, Nancy Morrissey and her husband Jack, Maureen O’Malley and her husband Gerard Allen, Brenda Rutherford and her husband Jim, Janet O’Malley and her husband Mansoor Ghori. Mary was the loving grandmother of Chris, Caitlin and Seanna O’Malley, Brigid Morrissey, Isabella and Sophia Ghori and the loving great grandmother of Connor and Claire O’Malley. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main Street, Medford, on Tuesday, March 21st at 10:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford at 11:30AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 through 8PM. Services will conclude with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
