Joann Brown, 78, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, March 16, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Monday, March 20, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Danny Gay officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Brown was born December 5, 1938, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, to the late Haskell Lasley and Leona Hensley Lasley Broshears. She was a homemaker and worked in retail. She also provided daycare for children. An avid gardener, Mrs. Brown had a passion for music. She was an accomplished musician as a songwriter and singer. She played the guitar and piano as well. She will be remembered by her family as being a Godly woman, a fervent prayer warrior and a loving mother. She was a member of the Church of Unity.
She is survived by her five children: Steve & Lisa Rains of Ottoville, Ohio, Lisa Sue & Todd Warren of Corbin, Kentucky, Michelle & Brad McDonald of Fitzgerald, Adam Rains of Fitzgerald and Samuel Rains of Fitzgerald; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings: Carolyn Glascock of North Carolina, Kenneth Lasley of North Carolina and Mary Lasley of Middleboro, Kentucky. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and the father of her children: J. C. Rains as well as her husband, Richard Eugene Brown; a son, James Mitchell “Mitch” Rains and a brother, Cecil Lasley.
