Obituary

Mrs. Myrtle I. (Farrar) Swain, beloved wife of Kenneth R. Swain, passed away at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital on Sunday, March 12, 2017. She was 90 years old.

Born in Boston on June 2, 1926, she was the beloved daughter of the late Ralph and Ruth (Whittemore) Farrar. Mrs. Swain worked for the Commercial Union Insurance Company in Boston for many years. In her spare time Myrtle enjoyed singing in the West Medford Baptist choir and playing the piano. She, along with her husband, Ken enjoyed traveling. They also loved to spend time together at their summer home in Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire and frequenting their favorite restaurant at Lakeside Restaurant. Myrtle also loved to collect lighthouses. Above all, she enjoyed being with husband and family. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Besides her beloved husband of nearly 70 years, Ken, she is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Muriel Mitchell, Ruth Strong, Marilyn Hart and Ralph Farrar.

Her funeral service will be celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Monday, March 20, 2017, at noon. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visitation will be held in the funeral home, prior to the service, from 11 to 12. Interment will be privately held. In lieu of flowers, Donation’s in Myrtle’s memory may be made to the West Medford Baptist Church, 59 Boston Avenue, Medford, MA 02155, for the new handicap access.
