Obituary

Robert E Clough, 93, of Medway passed peacefully at home under the compassionate care of hospice on Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

He was born in Medway, the son of the late Erving and Esther (Saunders) Clough. He was also pre-deceased in 2011 by his devoted wife of 55 years Therese D. (Devine) Clough.

He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Johnson and her husband, Walter, of Medway, a niece Kristen Kirby of Medway, and two nephews, David and Steven Johnson of Falmouth; grand-nephews, Brendan Kirby of Medway and Ryan Johnson of Falmouth, as well as grand-nieces Melissa Kirby of Medway and Alexa and Victoria Johnson of Falmouth.

Robert graduated from Medway High School with the class of 1941 and went on to Northeastern University, majoring in chemical engineering. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served until his honorable discharge in 1946.

Robert’s employment choices over the years reflected his personality and interests. He welcomed change and new experiences. Following his service in the Navy, he managed an inn in New Hampshire, served as a dispatcher for the Medway Police Department, worked for a Cambridge chemical company, and also worked extensively in banking, financing, and real estate. Bob was also a volunteer member of the Medway Fire Department from 1952 to 1983.

His interest were many and diverse; skiing, stamp collecting, and raising prize winning chinchillas held his attention in his younger days. Later he and Teri enjoyed traveling and boating on the waters off shore of Boston and the Cape. He also became an excellent amateur videographer of family affairs.

More recently, Robert’s interests were more sedentary. He enjoyed reading and discussing news items and events, watching TV, especially the Patriots and Red Sox. He also made good use of his computer and was probably ahead of most of his generation in the use of other electronic devices.

Robert will be greatly missed by his family and will be fondly remembered by friends locally and on Cape Cod where he and Teri resided for 33 years.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling on Monday, March 20 from 10 to 11 AM in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber Street in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) followed by a funeral service at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Medway.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Robert's memory to the Medway Fire & EMS Assoc., 44 Milford St., Medway, MA 02053 or to a charity of one's choice.
