Obituary

L. T. “Tommy” Tate, 87, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, March 13, 2017, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Thursday, March 16, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with Pastor Johnny Ashe officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, in Union City, Georgia, at 4 PM on Thursday. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Tate was born March 1, 1930, in Alexander City, Alabama, to the late Earnest & Mary McClellan Tate. He moved to the community in 1990 from Forest Park and was a former resident of Dallas, Georgia. He retired from American National Can Company, in Atlanta, as a Quality Control Inspector. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and traveling with his wife. Mr. Tate was a loving, sweet father to all his children and a loving grandfather as well. He was very family oriented. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dallas, Georgia.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Charlotte L. Tate of Fitzgerald; children: Linda T. Rineair & Johnnie of Springfield, Brenda Copeland of Jonesboro, Shirley Ann Gee & Larry of Pitts, Terri Rodriguez & Gus of Fitzgerald, Sherri Conti & John of Simpsonville, South Carolina; Sharon Bickham of North Carolina, Tammy Brooks of Charlotte, North Carolina, Charlotte Ashe & Johnny of Fitzgerald and Jennifer Baker of South Carolina; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; sisters: Dean Craft of Attalla, Alabama and Shirley Lawhorn of Kellyton, Alabama. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons: David T. Tate and James Levy.
