Obituary

CHICOPEE – Joseph Oscar Dupre, 98, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, March 11, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Manville, Rhode Island on November 24, 1918, a beloved son of the late Olimbre and Sarah (Allain) Dupre. He was raised in Whitinsville, Massachusetts and moved to the Aldenville section of Chicopee around 1968. Oscar was employed for many years as a welder at the Pratt & Whitney Company in Windsor Locks, CT. He was an entrepreneur, owned a cleaning business, a food service business and operated a hot dog cart. Oscar was an avid horseshoe player until the age of 95 and won several championships at the Granby American Legion. He was an avid Red Sox fan and was mentioned in the 2004 Red Sox Yearbook. He also had the honor of throwing the First Red Sox Ceremonial Pitch in April of 2007. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Theresa B. (Boisvert) Chagnon Dupre who was Called Home on March 19, 2014. He leaves his loving children, Therese M. LaBrecque, Jason J. Dupre and Olivia A. Chagnon Kubetin, all of Chicopee, Roland R. Chagnon, Jr. and his wife, Pamela, of Granby, Joyce M. Cote and her partner, Jay Schmidt, of Southbridge, Janice M. Saporito and her husband, William, of Granby, Michael J. Chagnon and his partner, Gini Iarusso, of Chicopee and Theodore L. Chagnon and his wife, Angela, of Granby; his 21 dear grandchildren; his 23 dear great-grandchildren; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Dupre, Chagnon and Boisvert families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear sister, Antoinette Dupre. His funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, March 21, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Children’s Miracle Network at Baystate Medical Center, 280 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01199.
