PLYMOUTH -- Mary C. Philbrook (Flaherty), age 94, formerly of West Yarmouth, West Roxbury, and Dorchester, Massachusetts passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 11.
She was the beloved daughter of John Flaherty and Delia O’Toole Flaherty, sister of the late Patrick, Agnes, John, and Edward Flaherty. Mary was predeceased by her loving son John, loving grandson Patrick Bartlett, and loving husband Walter.
She will be dearly missed and loved forever by her children Theresa Bartlett, Marianne Kirby, Kathleen Lane, and Walter Philbrook and her children-in-law Charles Bartlett, Richard Kirby, John Lane, and Carlota Philbrook. She was the beloved grandmother of Erica, William, and Emily Kirby and Dashiell Philbrook. Mary will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren-in-law Tara Kirby, Lee Mulder and Brandon Park.
Mary was born in Boston and grew up in Dorchester. She graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School and worked at Submarine Signal during World War II. After the War, she worked at The Gillette Company. When her children grew older, she worked as a telephone operator for The New England Telephone Company and as a clerk for the First National Bank of Boston.
She enjoyed dancing, and playing cards. She was an avid reader and enjoyed movies. Mary had a zest for living, a curiosity about life and people. She had an indefatigable spirit and a sweet and friendly presence in the world.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff of the Visiting Nurses Association of Cape Cod Hospice and Palliative Care.
The family had a private service.
