Roger O. Denault, 89, of New Bedford died on March 10, 2017 after a long illness.
He was the husband of the late Muriel (LeComte) Denault, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Mr. Denault was the son of the late Arthur Denault and Flore (Levesque) Denault.
He was formerly employed as a bread salesman for the My Bread Baking Company for 39 years until his retirement.
Mr. Denault was an active communicant of the former Sacred Heart parish now known as The Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. During the merger of the two parishes, Roger was instrumental on insuring that the Sacred Heart remained in the new name of the parish. He was presented the Marian Medal by the Diocese of Fall River for his many years of service to the parish. He proudly sang in the church choir.
He was an active member of the American Canadian Association (ACA) and the Saint Anthony Seniors Group of which he served both as officer. In 2010, he was named Franco-American of the Year by the Franco-American League.
Mr. Denault was an officer of the former Sunbeam Credit Union and belonged to a bowling league for many years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He will be missed by many.
Survivors include his 6 children, Denise Denault of New Bedford, Father Paul Denault, O. Carm., of Middletown, NY, Suzanne Denault of New Bedford, Celeste Roy and her husband Louis of Fairhaven, Louise Denault and Marc Denault, both of New Bedford; 4 grandchildren, Lori, Monique, Alyssa and Aaron; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late David Denault and the brother of the late Jean Denault and Louis Denault.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday, March 13th at 10 AM. Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, March 12th from 4-8 PM.
