Amancio A. Ferreira, 78, of New Bedford died Friday March 3, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of the late Alcides and Rose (Neves) Ferreira, he lived in New Bedford since the age of 13.
Mr. Ferreira was formerly employed as a dockside manager for Met Fisheries in New Bedford.
He was an avid New England sports fan. He enjoyed watching game shows and television news. He loved gardening and providing vegetables for his family and friends.
He is survived by four children, Joseph Ferreira and his wife Debbie, John Ferreira, Lisa Ferreira, and Adelisa Araujo; his siblings, Fernando Ferreira, Benilde Costa, and Eurico Ferreira; five grandchildren, Amy Araujo, Christian Ferreira, Michael Araujo, Katelyn Araujo, and Alexa Ferreira; two great-grandchildren, Omari and Eva; and nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday March 10, 2017 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Parish Center, South Dartmouth. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday March 9, 2017 from 5-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
